Lufthansa's Allegris Biz Class is a Confused Jumble

The German mega-carrier's new business class hits all the wrong buttons

If any airline can be said to have truly embraced emerging airline technology it must be Lufthansa.

Back in 2015 they started charging extra for bookings made outside their own channel. Then in Oct-2020 they introduced continuous pricing to offer a much wider range of fares than most carriers (see article). And when it comes to NDC, a communications standard supposed to turn airlines into retailers, you will be hard pressed to find an airline more enthusiastic.

Unfortunately their new “Allegris” business class cabin misses the mark.

Lufty’s seating has had it’s weird spots for years. Long after flat bed suites were standard they were offering four-abreast recliners in first class on the upper deck of a 747 (see article). Their separate seat and bed offer in the same space was rather odd and did not last long.

Sadly, Allegris business class continues in the same vein. It is a confused jumble of a product, mish-mashing every trendy airline business model that sounds good in theory but does not work in practice.
